Ohio Teen Driver Education, Licensed by the DPS

Since September 30, 2025, every Ohio first-time driver from 15 1/2 through 20 must complete a 24-hour driver education course, 8 hours of behind-the-wheel training, and 50 hours of supervised practice before taking the road test.

You can take the 24 hours online with us, but behind-the-wheel training has to be done with a certified driving instructor. At least 10 of your 50 supervised practice hours must be at night, certified by a parent or guardian on a notarized affidavit.

What students get

The course works on desktop, laptop, tablet, or phone. Your progress saves automatically, Ohio daily time limits are tracked, and the completion path is built around what driving schools and the BMV expect.

Permit rules

A TIPIC never lets you drive alone. You need a licensed adult in the front seat, and if you are under 16, that adult has to be a parent, guardian, or certified driving instructor.

Progress saved automatically
